Te'Jon Lucas of BYU Basketball announces NIL deal with Stele Hats

PROVO UTAH, August 27, 2021- - Recent BYU Basketball commit Te’Jon Lucas announces his NIL deal, a first of its kind, with Stele Hats (pronounced STEE-lee). Stele Hats is a unique brand concept sharing the underrated stories of inspiring people through hats and other apparel.

Te’Jon is expected to provide a depth of experience to BYU this season and this NIL deal which is one of the first for the team will be an opportunity for friends and fans alike to get to know his story.

Lucas was one of four Wisconsin players in the class of 2016 to make it to Division 1 basketball and the only one out of Milwaukee. He played 2 years for the University of Illinois, when after a coaching change, he transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Last season he averaged 14.9 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.6 rebounds on 39% shooting from the field and 28% from deep. According to KenPom he was top 50 in usage percentage and 21st in assist rate and his 5.8 assists were top 20 nationally. Lucas put up similar number the year prior and was All-Horizon in both of his seasons at Milwaukee. He’s had three games the last two seasons where he’s scored over 30 points.

Beyond his statistics, Lucas’s story is one of trials, heartache, and triumph all of which has helped him to get where he is at today. Since grade school, he spent most of his days at the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center—a place where he got help with homework, access to drivers ed, use of a food pantry in times of need, and was a place he considered to be a safe haven.

Speaking of his growing up, Lucas said, “I think you should always invest into the people who invested into you. Because what I am and what I’ve become is because I am product of my environment. I want to {eventually} have a community center, like the one I attended every day when I was a kid. {I want} to provide those opportunities to kids and adults. That’s one of my biggest priorities, giving back.”

The deal includes a revenue share between Lucas and Stele. They will be releasing a signature hat and shirt during the first of the upcoming season. Details of the release will be found at stele.co and by subscribing to their email newsletter. You can also follow them on social media.
